Site Settings

The site settings tab provides the interface to modify the information, and settings that affect your site as a whole.

Messages

Messages are informational notices provided by the administrators which maintain and operate the dotCommunity service. They will often be directly relevant to you, for example including downtime of the service, when it will be inaccessible, or information regarding an upgrade or improvement to the service. This is the default page displayed when you click the Manage Website link on any of your public pages.

Organisation Details

Organisation Details are the information you entered in your application for a website. The edit button allows you to modify the information to make sure it stays up to date.

It is important to keep this information up to date as the administrator of the service may need to use it to get in contact with you. Additionally the CMS can, if you wish, use this information to automatically generate content pages for you to allow your site visitors to access this useful information. For more details on automatically displaying organisation information please read the dotCommunity Content Mangement System documentation.

Directory Keywords

During the application process you will be offered the chance to select some categorisations that correspond to your website. Once you have selected, visitors to the dotCommunity service will be able to search using these categories to find your site, so it is important to make sure they are applicable to your website. If you would like to modify the categories you have selected for your site this page will allow you to do that.

Use External Site

dotCommunity provides a searchable directory including every enabled website on the service. This directory in itself is a powerful feature and a reason to create a site. In some cases a community or organisation may already have an existing website which they wish to continue using, however they may still want to appear in the directory. If your organisation is in this position then once you have created your website through the normal application process, you can use this page to configure your entry in the directory to redirect to your existing website. Simply enable the use of the existing website and then type in the fully qualified domain of your existing website, remembering to include the http:// (or alternative protocol) at the start.

Once you have completed the form your website will continue to be listed in the directory with the description you supplied when you completed your application form but if any visitor clicks on your entry they will be redirected immediately to your existing website.

Note that you can also configure this setting by editing community information details.
