Administering your Website

Administration of your dotCommunity website is designed to be as simple and intuitive as possible while giving you the power to create the site you want. The interface is broken down into a few key areas to help you manage your website.

To administer your website simply click the Manage Website Link on any public page of your site.

The dotCommunity Administration Interface

The Breadcrumb Trail

At the top of every page is a list of links, called the breadcrumb trail (1 in the diagram), which indicate where are you in the site. You can use these links to easily navigate to related pages of the one you are currently viewing, in addition to the standard navigation links.

Tabs

The tabs (2) across the top of the page break down the administration interface into related areas. This makes it easier to find the relevant page for the task you are carrying out. Please be aware that like all websites if you navigate to a different tab then any changes you were making on the previous one will be lost.

After navigating to the correct tab the administration interface is further broken down into pages (3). Each page displays a specific administration page for reading information or carrying out modifications to your site.

Inline Help

Throughout the administration interface of dotCommunity the help link offers information and guidance on the page you have navigated to. As a result of being specifically about the content of the page you are viewing it is often the best starting place for help.

To show the help simply click the show help link (4) and it will expand at the top of the page. You will then be shown the inline help on all pages you visit until you turn it off via the hide help link.

The rest of this section of the documentation is concerned with the administration interface, and explains the usage of each of its pages and features.
